Saturday afternoon Evan started crying that his eyes hurt. We thought he was being his normal dramatic self (he’d just gotten in trouble) so we brushed it off. By bedtime, we’d both forgotten that he even said it.
Cue Sunday morning & Evan woke up with a huge, swollen eye. Bright red and hot looking, it was NOT something you want to see a few days before leaving for DisneyLand! We waffled about taking him to the clinic but then we decided that we’d rather be safe than sorry. A few hours & two prescriptions later, we were hoping for the best.
Yeah…prescriptions hold such promise until you realize that they only work if you can actually get the drops & ointment into your kid’s eyes. It is amazing how strong and determined a 5 year old can be! The writhing! The flailing! The screaming! The thrashing!
I would love to tell you that I kept my cool and convinced Evan to let me put in the drops with out any yelling but…..I would be lying. I *may* have considered the use of duct tape (no….I didn’t go that far!). He seems to have confused eye drops with something that is optional.
So, we get to have the same fight multiple times per day. Here’s hoping that his eye gets better soon. Did I mention that he didn’t go to school today? Yeah…I didn’t want to get the hairy eyeball from other parents when I showed up with Evan and the eye.
So….my three day week has become a bit of a gong show but soon enough we’ll be in sunny California.
