I admit to being a huge social media and internet addict. I do. I realize that this is small potatoes in many circles but I am ready to throw my iPhone out the window & maybe my dear husband too (no…not really).
You see, it all started with FaceBook. That app that we all love to hate. I don’t participate that much on regular Facebook these days but I like following various groups based on the town I live in, mom’s groups, conferences I’m attending, etc. Well, today Facebook decided to randomly stop showing posts & comments in various places though it still notified me that those comments and posts were being made. That makes it doubly mean!
I know what you are thinking….what has this got to do with your iPhone? I’m getting to that….
Over a year ago, our desktop PC gacked. The power supply died and my dear husband kept saying he was going to fix it. That was the computer where our iTunes account resides. A year has gone by since I have been able to sync my iPhone or update it. Yeah…my iPhone is a *bit* behind the times.
In an effort to fix the Facebook issues, I deleted my FB app and tried to reload it. I got an error message that said “We’re sorry. You need to be on iOS version 4.3 for this to work.” Yeah….my phone is so behind that apps are currently not going to work. Oh and did I mention that I am in California? Yep.
So I could update my phone but it would delete everything I have installed and/or bought since it was last synched over a year ago. Darn Apple!
I can not be the only person that has ever had a computer die that had iTunes on it! I just wish they made it easier to make a back up of your phone. (And, truth be told, I wish that my husband had procrastinated a little bit less on getting the computer fixed. I’m sure if I mentioned that he would say “Could we talk about this later?”)
Sigh….first world problems I know BUT it is annoying that they make it so difficult!

I was so mad with Apple when I first purchased a Shuffle years ago. I couldn’t believe you couldn’t have music on iTunes on two different computers. (So, I sold my shuffle and swore off Apple products for the time being.)
For the past couple of years I have owned a 2nd generation iPod Touch (was a birthday present from my parents and brother). I went to download some new apps the other day and I can’t because my iOS is too old and I cannot update the iOS because the Touch is too old. Lovely! So, I am a bit cheesed off about that.
I do love my Macbook though.

So if my computer dies, all my itunes music does too??
If you don’t have a back up of iTunes external to that computer…yes. The newer iOSs let you backup the cloud so that is different but if you have an older iPhone/iPod and haven’t updated the iOS then you could be in trouble.
I am sorry though I do agree with you and your plight it sucks that Apple doesn’t have a stand- alone program that allows you to update. I LOVE APPLE! I love the iphone and everything it does. My son broke mine and I miss it terribly.
