Summertime….It’s all over over but the crying

Well, we’re 4 days from our last camping trip of the year and 9 days from Evan’s first day of kindergarten!

How did that happen?

Oh well….this summer in Calgary has been amazing. We have had more sun and heat this year than any other since I moved here 7 years ago. It was glorious (and I have a tan to boot)!

Yum! Jalapeno poppers for the win! Yum! Jalapeno poppers for the win!

This weekend, we visited friends at Gull Lake (Northwest of Red Deer). The weather was a bit cool and quite windy so we didn’t spend much time at the lake but it didn’t matter. We spent the weekend relaxing, eating & drinking and the kids had a blast playing.

Even though summers are short here, I find that I do WAY more “summer-y” things here than in Alabama or Texas because you don’t take summer for granted. You know that it is short & you work to squeeze every last minute out of it before it’s gone.

Me & my boy! Me & my boy!

Evan is super excited about starting school. I asked him tonight what he thought his favorite part of school will be & he answered “EVERYTHING!!!!”

So, we’re squeezing in the last few days before our life changes and I have a little boy in school. It seems crazy to even consider because it seems like yesterday that he was born.

I’m a little sad about summer leaving but I love Fall. I also love that Evan is so excited.

Are you sad for the end of summer?

So exciting! LOL…I love my glasses. Crazy thing tho…they are freebies that I got from Yelp. I get so many compliments about them.

My little one starts grade 1 this year and I’ve found that one to be the hardest for me…hope I survive the day :) I didn’t do everything I wanted to do this summer, though we did a lot. Love fall too! Hope it’s nice through Halloween.

Lovely post! Thanks for sharing!
We are so sad to see the end of a fun, busy summer.
I am already planning Christmas, even bought gifts already, and trying to organize family time and family trips over the holidays to see everyone!
But this week, I refuse! I will enjoy the last week of summer without planning anything. Just life in the moment and enjoy! :)

I AM sad for the end of summer! I feel like I missed a lot of it because of stupid grown up stuff. Next year I’m camping. I’m going to start buying gear now lol.

Camping is so fun but it is a bit gear intensive. :)

Oooooohhhh that sounds fun. Unfortunately I think D is out of town that weekend. Every year it’s the long weekend and then BOOM the calendar explodes until Christmas.

For the most part I’m sad too. I wish summer weren’t so short. We spent the majority of our summer at the lake and the kids had a blast. It was truly what summer was meant to be. Having been home for the past week though, they are starting to get on each others nerves and therefo on mine too. School is routine and sometimes that’s a good thing too. Glad you had a great summer

I agree….summer is just too short. Sometimes I wish that life were one big summer/weekend combo. ;)

We were so busy this summer and I think you hit the nail on the head “You know that it is short & you work to squeeze every last minute out of it before it’s gone.” It is so true in Alberta!! I am tired but happily (also) packing for our last camping trip of the year this long weekend. And then my almost 5 yr old starts school…last child…feeling kind of sappy about it all. Fortunately he is also uber excited and growing up too fast. Enjoy your last camping trip of the year, salute!

I LOVE summer. I love the heat and the humidity and the sunshine. I love sitting outside and sweating in the glorious sunlight. I get really sad about fall. I don’t really enjoy fall because I spend too much time missing summer. I hope children can snap me out of that and I can enjoy all seasons through their little eyes!
