Calgary Cool – Inglewood Drive-In’s Elephant

Evan riding the cool retro elephant at Inglewood Drive-In

Inglewood Drive-In is a cute little diner in Inglewood that serves hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, ice cream, shakes, etc. The first thing I noticed…it made me feel like I was back in my home town in Alabama. They used the signs where you move around the little plastic letters to spell out the offerings. Love that! The only negative that goes along with those signs? You have no idea what is on the various burger offerings. Not to worry, though, the nice lady behind the cash register knows them all by heart.

So, the straight scoop is…the burgers are ok, the poutine is great and I can’t wait to go back to try the shakes and ice cream selection. They serve soft-serve ice cream and they have a wide variety of shake flavors and blizzard-esque concoctions. Mmmm…ice cream.

Oh yeah…we were talking about Calgary cool. Well, inside this teeny tiny restaurant is a gigantic retro, coin-operated metal elephant. It takes quarters so you forgive Dumbo his short ride time. Evan had a blast and I’m sure we will ride the elephant quite a few more times over the remainder of the summer when we visit for poutine and ice cream!
