Favorite iPad Apps for Preschoolers

My Favorite Apps

Apps, Apps Everywhere

My iPad is very popular around here especially for Evan.  He loves it & the new apps I’ve bought for him.  Here are a few of our favorites but PLEASE leave me a comment so I can check them out!

Alien Buddies – $1.99 – A fun matching game for colors, letters, numbers using both visual and audio.  I really like the audio version because Evan is REALLY good at matching things but that doesn’t necessarily mean he knows his letters and numbers by sight.  He also enjoys the puzzle portion and dot to dot games.  You can determine the number of pieces the puzzles are cut into.

The Monster at the End of this Book - $3.99 – Who doesn’t love loveable, furry, old Grover?  Grover is scared stiff to get to the end of the book because there’s a monster!  He throws up lots of interactive roadblocks along the way.  Evan loves this book app and he giggles through the entire thing.  It’s a bit expensive but he’s watched it enough times to justify an app twice as much.

Another Monster at the End of This Book – $3.99 – More Grover and with the edition of the cute little, red, ELMO! Plus more interactive roadblocks and even more fun.

Where’s My Water - $0.99 – Where’s My Water is yet another physics based app but it’s produced by Disney so, somehow, it’s just more fun.  Evan LOVES it and is amazingly good at it.  He can beat all the normal levels but there are additional levels that are harder so it’s fun even for adults.

Seuss Band – Free – Think Guitar hero except with a Seuss-ical wind instrument and Dr. Seuss songs.  It’s very fun and very challenging.  I *may* play this one more than Evan. So sue me.

Dino Rush – $0.99 –  Evan loves this game but I SUCK at it.  Hmmm….perhaps that is a bit of a trend.  The little dino rushes around eating fruit for energy.  Get as far as you can before he gets exhausted.  Evan plays this game incessantly.

Hot Deal:  To celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday, Ocean House Media has put many of their Dr. Seuss books and games on Sale from March 2 – 8.  Complete list of Dr. Seuss Books on Sale.

Great list Merry :) We have some of those but also Monkey’s Lunchbox, Matching Zoo, The Cat in The Hat and Fruit Ninja (which is mostly for my hubs and myself to compete at)

We have The Cat in the Hat and Fruit Ninja too. Don’t know how they got missed on the list. Do you have Puss & Boots Fruit Ninja? It’s so fun!

Puss and Boots Fruit Ninja. mwhahaha I have to get that. Ben loves these games but he really loves Angry Birds. So I keep it hidden in multiple folders that I move around on my phone. When he’s been really bad I password protect my phone and watch his head explode. (meanest mom ever)

Evan really loves Angry Birds too. I didn’t add it because it’s so ubiquitous (and because it drives me nuts & I suck at it). ;)

I wrote a similar post aimed at a kids a little bit younger than your son http://talkinginallcaps.blogspot.com/2012/02/our-favorite-ipadiphone-apps-for-older.html

I’ll have to check out Alien Buddies. Where’s my Water? looked a little bit too hard. What age do you think could do it? My son’s turning 3 next month.

Great minds think alike! :) I think “Where’s My Water” would be better for 4 year olds. I think we’ve had it for about 6 months (on iPod). At first he like to watch me play it but now he doesn’t need me at all.

that was sort of my impression of it too, but I’ve heard good things about it. It can be so hard to get a good feel for what an app is going to be like from the little bit they show on itunes – which is why I love looking at reviews like these :)

Our girls love talking Gina. I will have to checkout alien buddies, it sounds like something they would love. They already play where’s my water constantly.

Evan likes all the “talking” apps too. He managed to order extra ones through in-app purchases before I turned that off….so I have a BUNCH of them. ;)

Great list of apps! I’ll have to check those ones out. My little guy just discovered Where’s the Water tonight and loved it. He also loves Sound Touch, Miss Spiders Ztea Party, Toca Doctor, Cut the rope and Super why. He adores music and will probably love Suess Band.
