Family friendly recipes always have a place in my recipe box. This recipe is really straight forward and really family friendly…..oh and it’s really tasty too!
BBQ Meatballs
Adapted from BBQ Meatballs from Pioneer Woman Cooks
2 pounds ground beef
3/4 cup (heaping) quick cook oats
1 cup milk
4 Tbsp minced onions
1 1/2 Tsp salt
black pepper to taste
1 cup flour
2 – 4 Tbsp canola oil
Sauce:
1 cup ketchup
6 Tbsp minced Onions
2 Tbsp sugar
3 Tbsp white vinegar
2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
4 dashes Frank’s hot sauce
Mix ground meat, oats, milk, onions, salt and pepper. Roll into small – medium meatballs. Place on a cookie sheet and freeze for 5 minutes.
No need for a freezer in Calgary!
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Heat frying pan on medium/high heat with 1-2 Tbsp canola oil. Dredge meatballs in flour and fry until just starting to brown. Place meatballs in a 13X9 pan that has been sprayed with cooking spray.
Mix sauce ingredients and pour over meatballs. Bake for 45 minutes. Serve with mashed potatoes. YUM!

Mmmmm, they look good.
I never make anything with beef anymore, but these almost tempt me!
I bet you could make them just as well with ground turkey. I think the oats and milk would keep them moist. You might want to kick the spices up a notch, though, because turkey can be a bit bland.
